Three names in place of all the ones that weren’t allowed to speak
Thirty times they faced the wall while men practiced their new techniques
It’s not black and white, but it is, because the only records are his
We can’t drown in his ink. Don’t forget these stories are linked
I wish these monuments were built with these important men inside them
Cast in bronze and stone while they still breathe
At least when we see all these smug looks on their frozen faces
we’d know they were rotting underneath
Not doomed to repeat
Three years of exploitation, “that’s just how it was those days”
Three statues celebrating all the bodies, all their pain
Forced to hold each other down. Drugged to muffle screaming sounds
Not knowing who’d be next. Progress but at whose expense?
I wish these monuments were built with these important men inside them
Cast in bronze and stone while they still breathe
At least when we see all these smug looks on their frozen faces
we’d know they were rotting underneath
Please, it can’t repeat
How long must we wait before these pillars of men crumble and fall?
Yeah, we rope them up to drag them down,
to desecrate their public graves
Yeah, we lifted you up instead of your mothers
and your daughters, these women,
your wives, your maids, your servants, and your slaves
We’re tired of waiting
The bigger the guilt, the harder they fall
I love the light and shade between Bryan's dirty and Emma's forlorn vocals. There are so many layers to this recording that are driven home through contrast. Plus the riffs are brilliant and get me moving. I can't stop listening to Thou and Emma in general lately. spaceman2250
